lie with me by philippe besson is a heartbreaking story that focuses on two young men and their relationship throughout their lives. taking place in the 80s, our two main characters philippe, 17, and thomas, 17, share a secret love that is hidden from everyone. thomas is popular and closeted, while philipe is quiet and out. the two boys fall in love quietly and share their relationship with nobody. however, this secret romance doesn't last as long as philippe hoped, and ends in a devastating tragedy.

prior to reading this book, i believed no book could truly make me sob or make me feel completely heart-wrenched. however, after reading this book i now know that i was incredibly wrong. lie with me completely shattered me and left me thinking about it for weeks. this was an easy five-star read that was incredibly quick to finish, as it is only 149 pages. i never thought a book that short could impact me as much as lie with me did. i highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys poetic writing, LGBTQ+ characters, and forbidden love. just make sure you have a box of tissues by you at all times whilst reading.
