Though this novel was published in 2018, My Year of Rest and Relaxation was one of the most talked-about books of 2021. It follows an unnamed narrator and her journey on attempting to sleep for a year straight. It is revealed early on in the book that our narrator has a troubled past and no real positive coping mechanisms.

From the get-go, the reader learns that the only connection our protagonist has is her therapist, Dr. Tuttle, her 'Best Friend', Reva, and Ex-Boyfriend, Trevor. None of these relationships are healthy, leaving our narrator to have no real support system and allowing her to fall into a severely unhealthy state.

I had very high hopes going into this book, and I was sadly disappointed. I felt that the plot was flat and that nothing much occurred throughout the duration of this novel. If you are someone who loves medium paced books that consist solely of the POV of an unreliable narrator, this book is for you!
